One of the trademarks of Bairrada is, without a doubt, the roasted suckling pig known as Leitão à Bairrada. On this tour, we will show you how we roast a suckling pig, since its preparation to its tasting. Following Bairrada´s tradition, a spectacular roasted suckling pig can only be savoured if it´s combined with a great sparkling wine. Therefore, after having a special lunch, we will vist a winery of the region to show you how the sparkling wine is produced and its history.
We leave Aveiro to discover one of the trademarks of Bairrada, the roasted suckling pig. Regarded as one of the Seven Wonders of the Portuguese cuisine, this is one of the most famous and appreciated dishes in the Region of the Center and country.
Once we arrive at Piedade, a small village from Águeda´s county, we find the restaurant João dos Leitões, one of the most famous in the region, with almost 40 years and known for the excellence of the Leitão and the quality of service.
Here we will learn how they prepare the suckling pig before it goes to the wood burning oven, how it´s placed in the oven and how it´s taken from the oven. Once it´s out, we will have our lunch ready to relish.
After a lunch to remember, we head to a winery for a guided visit where we can learn all about the production of sparkling wine, its history and how important it is in this region of Portugal
